Go, Tasmania, go! You are already full of our favourite things: wine, cheese, whisky and controversial art, and now, as if things couldn’t get better, you’re getting rid of one of our least favourite things: SINGLE-USE PLASTIC.
THIS MAKES US FEEL LIKE MOBULA RAYS, THE BURDEN OF THE DESTROYED PLANET WE’VE INHERITED MOMENTARILY LIFTED:
Hobart City Council decided on Monday night they would phase out plastic takeaway containers by 2020, maximising the city’s war on waste. The new policy will be added to Tasmania’s Plastic Shopping Ban Act in 2013, which banned retailers from supplying shoppers with lightweight plastic shopping bags. Hobart alderman Bill Harvey hopes it will set a new precedent for the whole country.
“This is something that I think will have an impact on society,” he said.
“It’s time to start moving on an issue like this and the council can be a national leader.”
Here for you, Bill! Keep setting those examples!
