The legends over at Patagonia just did another great thing for the planet by launching a platform that connects customers with local grassroots action groups. “It’s kind of a dating site,” Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard jokes in a promotional video for the tool that looks 5000 times better than any dating app we’ve ever used.
If you want to be a part of Patagonia Action Works all you have to do is click here, enter your city into the search bar, choose your cause — biodiversity, climate, communities, land, water or all issues — and you’ll be presented with a list of the community groups that operate in your area. Once you get to know these groups, you can apply to volunteer or donate. The site will also keep you up to date with upcoming events and petitions. Just like a real dating site, grassroots groups can sign up to become a part of this community of activists too.
“Patagonia’s reason for existence is to force governments and corporations to take action in solving our environmental problems … We’ve had lots of, you might call them victories, but recently things have gotten a lot worse and we’ve asked ourselves, ‘What more can we do?'” Chouinard explained. And so, this site was born. Watch him make a very good argument for why it’s so important in the clip below.
